After a slight delay with the posts, we are back with the Mexican GP.
Lando Norris dominated the Singapore Grand Prix and won the race. He was very close to a grand slam, but Daniel Ricciardo pitting the last lap and getting the fastest lap kept Norris away from getting extra one point and getting closer to Max Verstappen. This one point was actually very important for the championship fight because even if Max became second and Norris first for the rest of the races, Max will win the championship.
Right after finishing the race, Daniel Ricciardo didn’t leave his car immediatly, and instead sat there for a while, as if it was his last moments in a Formula 1 car. After the race, RB team said goodbye with a small ceremony, and in a small amount of time, an announcement came, which told us that Ricciardo will be replaced with Liam Lawson.
Before the US GP in Austin, McLaren, Alpine and Haas all revealed new liveries. Alpine was a sponsorship livery, showcasing Indiana Jones using orange colours. McLaren went back to chrome instead of the white we was in the Singapore GP. We can actually see that the liveries McLaren used in the last two races resemble their history. Singapore was the McLaren from 90’s and US was from 2000’s. They are trying to show that they will be the champions again, just like their past cars did. Haas added American symbols on their sidepods. However, the most important news about Haas wasn’t the livery, it was the sponsorhip with Toyota Gazoo Racing. It isn’t only a sponsorship deal, which the company puts their logo on the car and uses the car or drivers in their advertisements, it is actually were useful for Haas. Toyota will supply all mechanical parts for Haas and build them a simulator at Haas’ headquarters. The contract with Ferrari about engines is still ongoing and Ferrari already knew about the deal with Toyota. So, Toyota won’t be making F1 engines. This deal could improve Haas a lot and move them higher in the standings.
During the US GP, only Hamilton couldn’t finish the race, as he spun and got stuck in the early parts of the race. Max Verstappen pushed Lando Norris outside the track and Charles Leclerc saw the opportunity and took it. Leclerc went on to win the race, while his teammate, Carlos Sainz, came second, making it a 1-2 for Scuderia Ferrari. Verstappen and Norris fought very hardly but at one point, Verstappen pushed Norris again and Norris continued from the outside of the track. Norris surprisingly got a 5 seconds penalty which helped Verstappen to ensure the final step of the podium. In the standings Verstappen seems to be the WDC. Yet, McLaren have opened a gap to Red Bull and Ferrari are only 8 points behind Red Bull. At the end of the year we could see Red Bull at P3. This is due to Red Bull not firing Sergio Perez, who is constantly underperforming. To compare, George Russell, who started in the pit lane, finished above Perez, who started in P9.
As we arrive to Mexico, we might see a fight for P2 in the WCC. Also, this race will be the 43 years old Fernando Alonso’s 400th race in F1, and according to him, he is not planning to stop, at least for now. Austin was not a track McLaren cars were a fan of, so we can still expect McLaren domination this race.
What are your thoughts? Who will win the race?
